How It All Began
Andrea Tonkin, a strong supporter of local charities with a thriving social calendar, combined both in launching her own fundraiser with her sister Sally Tonkin. They experimented with the Five in Five concept in February 2011. Within their own network of friends 30 singles signed up and $3000 worth of fundraising later, they realised they had the potential for a great campaign.
In 2012 they threw the campaign out into the public arena. People from far and wide signed up, with nearly 1000 dates occurring in cafes, bars, restaurants, parks and theatres. Together the participants raised $46,000.
The campaign has seen weddings, babies, short and long term relationships – but more importantly a more positive outlook on meeting people and making a real difference in the community.
